All the answers to your unique business lifestage questions

At Magnetic Storm, we focus on ‘doing it right’; and if things go wrong, we aim to learn from the errors and not point fingers, assign blame, or make people feel insignificant.

We start with the premise:  “I know you intended to do it right. But, let's explore what factors created this situation, what can we learn and do, so that this situation doesn’t happen again."

Make continuous improvement part of how you live

This focus on improvement can be an uncomfortable prospect because it means that you will always be accountable, challenged, and not complacent. When you become overwhelmed by this mindset, reflect on how far you have come and what you have achieved through continuous improvement. You’ll surprise yourself and find renewed energy to continue.

Know your talents and play to them

Jane Stevenson, our director,  was recently trained as a Talent Dynamics practitioner and through this, we've seen the real value of playing to talents rather than spending time trying to fix weaknesses.

The key is to acknowledge and identify your talents and surround yourself with people who complement these talents. Be mindful of the contributions that individuals make when they are doing their best work, notice the productivity that they bring to the proverbial table. As much as you seek to apply your talents in 2018, boldly own weaknesses and engage the help of others.

Embrace diversity

South Africa’s a melting pot of cultures, nationalities and other diversity elements, which means we all have a lot to offer. Yes, there might be struggles, but deal with it constructively, with mutual respect and a focus on shared goals.

As you move towards 2018, challenge your prejudices by asking questions and seek to understand others. They may give you valuable insights that can unleash your excellence as an entrepreneur.

Henry Ford said, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got."

If you want to make 2018 a truly excellent year, then you need to do more of what helps you improve, more of what allows you to present your best version of yourself to the world and more of what will enable you to access the best in others.

And of course, surround yourself with people who inspire and grow your circle with people who positively influence your life.
